I quit using
chemical based soaps, shampoos and household cleaners about two years
ago. I use vinegar, baking soda and soap nuts to clean our home,
dishes and laundry. I've had great results with it. But, if I don't get
the concentration just right when I make my soap nut solution shampoo
it can leave a film on my hair. It's not a huge problem – it feels
similar to the film that some commercial shampoos leave, but I don't
like it. Plus, while it doesn't take a super long time to make my
soap nut shampoo, it does require a regular time commitment of about
45 minutes every 2 weeks or so. For these reasons I set out to find a more simple alternative to my homemade soap nut shampoo. And I found it – baking soda! I found this recipe on-line (although, I forget where) and I simply LOVE IT! 1 tablespoon baking soda1 cup water Mix baking soda and water in a squeeze bottle. I use an old dish soap bottle, but a mustard or ketchup bottle will work, too. Squeeze a little bit of the baking soda mixture on your scalp and massage the scalp until it starts to feel slippery. Then, rinse well with lots of water. My thick, curly, usually dry and frizzy hair is soft and manageable. There's no residue, no film and it feels light. Way better than my soap nut shampoo-- and unlike soap nut shampoo, baking soda never goes bad. |
