Because of the on-going disaster in Japan, it may be a wise course of action to monitor environmental radiation levels from an independent, non-government source. There is an organization in Prescott, Arizona that uses a software called GeigerGraph for Networks to bring together data from independent geiger counters around the word. To the best of my knowledge anyone with a geiger counter is encouraged to set up, and link in. On their website, Radiation Network, you'll find maps indicating radiation levels for the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, and Japan. (note: as of right now, Radiation Network does not show any radiation stations for Japan, however they have indicated that they do have a contact just outside of Tokyo. They have asked their contact to report radiation data, but have not yet received a response.) |
