Have you heard of the Ogallala Aquifer? Yeah.. until today, neither
had I. It seems a good portion of the water used to irrigate crops in
the breadbasket of America is contained in this ancient underground
area. The Ogallala Aquifer contains what's called "fossil water." This
water is pure and used to be plentiful, but according to experts could
be depleted within decades.
It's been suggested that if that
happens agriculture in the area will come to a grinding halt because
lack of usable water. It has also been suggested that if the Ogallala
Aquifer dries up that the entire area will become one big dust bowl,
incapable of sustaining very many people, animals, or vegetation. This
has already happened in one town in Texas. The Ogallala Aquifer under
the town dried up, and agriculture in the town failed. What's does that have to do with natural health? Sources I've read
say that if the Ogallala Aquifer is depleted food production in the US
will drop dramatically, causing true food shortages in the US. Mike
Adams of Natural News recommends everyone in the country learn to grow,
store and manage their own food supply. Others suggest that dependence
on genetically modified foods (GMO) will increase dramatically. Of
course, many scientists and health professionals are not convinced that
GMO foods are completely safe for long term human consumption. I've only done a small amount of research on this so far, but as I learn more, I'll share my findings here.
