Vaccine Law in the US

Are you concern about mandatory vaccine laws in the US? If you have kids, or are concerned about your own health, you should consider staying on top of what's going on with the vaccine law. Here's what  Dr, Merola has to say: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2011/03/22/betrayal-of-consumers-by-us-supreme-court-gives-total-liability-shield-to-big-pharma.aspx

Radiation Monitoring

Because of the on-going disaster in Japan, it may be a wise course of action to monitor environmental radiation levels from an independent, non-government source.

There is an organization in Prescott, Arizona that uses a software called GeigerGraph for Networks to bring together data from independent geiger counters around the word. To the best of my knowledge anyone with a geiger counter is encouraged to set up, and link in.

On their website, Radiation Network, you'll find maps indicating radiation levels for the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, and Japan. (note: as of right now, Radiation Network does not show any radiation stations for Japan, however they have indicated that they do have a contact just outside of Tokyo. They have asked their contact to report radiation data, but have not yet received a response.)

Banana Flax Bread

My kids have been bugging me to make banana bread. It’s a reasonable request, but in our house it’s just a little difficult. Our family diet requires that we avoid gluten, anything artificial, sugar, and high oxalate foods. So I came up with this recipe for banana flax bread. I adapted the recipe from a
.

Note: Oxalate levels are taken from the
website.

Ingredients:  (oxalate levels are in parenthesis)

Scant 2 cups freshly ground flax meal  (Medium)
1 Tablespoon baking powder   (Very Low)
the equivalent of ¼ cup of sweetener (will vary depending on sweetener used)
2 eggs  (no oxalates)
½ cup water (none)
⅓ cup oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 bananas  (Medium)

Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl.
In a medium sized bowl, combine eggs, water, oil, and vanilla.
Mash bananas in food processor, or through a sieve.
Add mashed bananas to egg mixture and stir well.

Add wet ingredients to dry, and stir until well combined.

Line a cookie sheet with tin foil.
Spread bread batter on to cookie sheet.

Bake at 350 deg. F, for about 20 minutes. Bread will be springy to the touch and slightly brown when done.

Remove from the oven and let cool before cutting. The easiest way to remove flax bread, and especially banana flax bread is to first cut the bread into pieces, then pick up the tin foil, and flip it upside down. Then, carefully peel the foil from the bottom of the bread.

Here's the final product.

Protect Yourself from Radiation Exposure

Everyone is aware of what’s happening in Japan with their nuclear reactors. I’m not going to get into the political debate or blaming game. Frankly, it doesn’t matter to me how those nuclear plants got into meltdown. The disaster in Japan could have happened anywhere. Japan is used to getting earthquakes, they are prepared for any “typical” earthquake that hits them. What has occurred in Japan was the second strongest earthquake the Japanese have ever had to deal with. And the aftershocks were, and continue to be up in the 5.0 - 6.5 range.

Those are full-fledged earthquakes in their own right.

What matters to me is helping to minimize the damage to life: plant, animal, and human alike.

There are many supplements and natural foods that can help the body eliminate toxic levels of radiation, and protect you from radiation poisoning.

Potassium Iodide is probably the most well known. But as radiation moves across the world and exposure grows Potassium Iodide is likely to become difficult to find. Some unscrupulous companies may increase the price of potassium iodide because of the increased demand. So, knowing other options is a good idea.

See the list below for food and supplements that can protect and/or help your body detox from radiation exposure.

  • Spirulina
  • Oral alginates help decrease absorption of radioactive strontium.
  • Superoxide Dismutase or SOD
  • Dimethylglycine (DMG)

  • Detoxifying bath ( add 2 cups apple cider vinegar to hot bath. Soak for 15- 30 minutes)
  • Alfalfa is high in chlorophylls and vitamin K. It may help decrease tissue damage from radiation exposure.
  • Apple Pectin helps bind and remove toxins from the system.
  • Drink at least 2-3 quarts of clean water each day.

Here is a recipe for Antiradiation Soup as listed in Staying Healthy with Nutrition. The recipe was created by Bethany Argisle

4 oz tofu, cut into bite sized squares
1 oz kombu or nori seaweeds cut in strips
3 cups purified water
1 tablespoon miso paste, more to taste
1 lemon
1 ½ cups cooked brown rice

Optional ingredients:
1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
chopped green onions
cilantro

Boil water. Add tofu and seaweed. Simmer for a few minutes, then reduce heat. Add miso paste, lemon juice and optional ingredients. If desired, cover and let sit 15-20 minutes. Remove seaweed and serve with brown rice.

According to the recipe in Staying Healthy with Nutrition, this recipe was proven to reduce radiation sickness after Hiroshima.

Ogallala Aquifer

Have you heard of the Ogallala Aquifer?  Yeah.. until today, neither had I. It seems a good portion of the water used to irrigate crops in the breadbasket of America is contained in this ancient underground area. The Ogallala Aquifer contains what's called "fossil water." This water is pure and used to be plentiful, but according to experts could  be depleted within decades.

It's been suggested that if that happens agriculture in the area will come to a grinding halt because lack of usable water. It has also been suggested that if the Ogallala Aquifer dries up that the entire area will become one big dust bowl, incapable of sustaining very many people, animals, or vegetation.  This has already happened in one town in Texas. The Ogallala Aquifer under the town dried up, and agriculture in the town failed.

What's does that have to do with natural health? Sources I've read say that if the Ogallala Aquifer is depleted food production in the US will drop dramatically, causing true food shortages in the US. Mike Adams of Natural News recommends everyone in the country learn to grow, store and manage their own food supply. Others suggest that dependence on genetically modified foods (GMO)  will increase dramatically. Of course, many scientists and health professionals are not convinced that GMO foods are completely safe for long term human consumption.

I've only done a small amount of research on this so far, but as I learn more, I'll share my findings here.

An Alternative to Statin Drugs

A lot of people use statin drugs to manage cholesterol. But, did you know that while statin drugs effectively lower cholesterol, they do not address the underlying cause of your high ch9lesterol. These potentially dangerous medications just cover up the problem.

On the other hand, Vitamin C works to lower cholesterol in the *exact same way* as statin drugs, and also works to repair damage to blood vessels so the body needs to produce less cholesterol.

Are you getting enough Vitamin D?

Don't forget to get enough Vitamin D to help keep your immune system working at its best. If you catch a lot of colds or flu, low Vitamin D could be a contributing factor. If you're unsure, ask your doctor to order a Vitamin D test, or get one yourself from one of many "order it yourself labs" around the country, like this one:     http://www.personalabs.com/

A more realistic take on the US Food Pyramid

Thanks to Lew Rockwell for this post on an alternate view of the US Food Pyramid. I agree with the Weston Price foundation that the current Food Pyramid presented by the US government and taught to our school children is inaccurate, and partially responsible for the obesity epidemic in our county.

It's worth your time.
